Trees
⬜ placeholder · a skeleton only: ask for this method and it reports “not decided yet” · the worked example’s picture has none · the method name and where a person writes it: appendix G
How an artist paints it
Leaves are painted by the clump, not the leaf: one local colour per clump, a bright patch on top and a shadow beneath (two bands, hard-edged or broken), and a few individual leaves at its border (a few tapered shapes); between clumps the darker interior shows. A branch gets one band of shadow plus one bright line, hard-edged; and a distant tree is a silhouette in one colour.
What it looks like in the source
A diffusion model’s tree is clumps of green with light and shade and broken leaf borders; segmentation gives the whole tree, so the clumps have to be cut out separately (connected components of luminance).
Our method ⬜
No code. Choosing method="tree" passes the parts table and reports “the method for trees is not decided yet” when painting starts.
Layers (as envisaged)
Tree/: Shape -> _Flat -> _Shadow/ (the shadow beneath each clump) -> _Light/ (the bright patch on top of each) -> _Leaf (the broken leaves at the border, a few strokes) -> _Trunk (the branches) -> _Line (of which there is hardly any).
How a person writes it in
"Tree": dict(method="tree"), # not decided yet; painting reports it
Criteria
The per-group rulers; the number of clumps, counted by a person; and whether the borders are broken.
What has to be decided
- How the clumps are cut (whether connected components of luminance suffice, and whether segmentation gives clumps).
- Whether a clump’s border is a hard-edged Shape or broken strokes.
- How distance is washed out.
- Whether the trunk and the leaves are one group or two.
On origin
The worked example’s picture has no trees.
